HHS girls’ basketball season ends at regionals PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kyle Arnoldy

Holyoke girls entered the Region 4 basketball tournament in Denver as the underdog, facing Lutheran, the top-ranked 2A team in the state. Despite the Lady Dragons’ best efforts, Holyoke’s season came to an end with a 53-80 loss to the Lady Lions.

“Having to play the 2A No. 1 ranked Lutheran team was a difficult task for us,” coach Arlan Scholl explained. “I was very pleased with the effort and the great play that the girls gave in this game, but we were just not able to come up with a win. This was still a very good year for our team to be able to reach the regional round.”

The two teams traded quick baskets early in the match at Mullen High School, but HHS was unable to keep pace with the high-scoring Lutheran squad.

Turnovers held the Holyoke girls back, as they committed nearly twice as many as Lutheran. In total, the Lady Dragons turned the ball over 24 times and accounted for just four steals while Lutheran had just 13 turnovers and earned 13 steals.

Lutheran closed out the first period on a 10-4 run to take a 22-13 lead.
