Holyoke boys earned the seventh seed in the class 2A state tournament scheduled March 13-15 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
In the Region 6 tournament last weekend, second-seeded Holyoke defeated No. 3 Limon and top-ranked Rye in the regional finals to move on to the Great Eight in Pueblo.
The Dragons (16-8) will face second-ranked Lutheran (18-6) Thursday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. While other teams in the bracket have better records than Lutheran, the Lions are undefeated when facing 2A teams.
Holyoke coach Scott Dille stated that Lutheran is a tall, quick team that shoots the 3-ball well and runs a challenging 1-3-1 zone defense. While the defense is a bit different from anything the Dragons have faced this season, Dille said the Dragons must continue to attack the zone.
Dille noted that as HHS is the underdog, the pressure to win falls squarely on the shoulders of the Lions.
