Nutrition Facts label could see changes PDF Print E-mail

There is definitely a relationship between the food people eat and their health. Being a wise shopper and aware of nutrients consumed from foods and beverages is important. One beneficial resource available is the Nutrition Facts food label, which provides important nutritional information on food packages.

The Nutrition Facts label was introduced in 1993. It helps consumers compare nutrient content of similar foods and understand how individual foods fit into overall diets, along with the relationship between certain nutrients and diseases.

The label panel includes information on the serving size, number of servings, total calories and calories from fat. It also lists saturated fat, cholesterol, dietary fiber and other nutrients of major health concern. Along with that, a column labeled “% Daily Value” helps people see how each nutrient fits into their average daily diet.
