Melissa Memorial Hospital (MMH) will welcome Dr. Danielle McClellan to its staff July 28.
McClellan moved to Holyoke this summer with her family after finishing her residency in Ft. Collins. McClellan joins the MMH staff as a Family Practice physician and also practices obstetrics.
Administrator John Ayoub said the hospital is looking forward to having Dr. McClellan on board. “She’s very intelligent and is respected by her peers and her teachers,” Ayoub said.
Ayoub also mentioned the fact McClellan will be living in town will be an asset to the hospital.
“We were still looking for the full-time, live in town physician, Ayoub said. “I’m very excited that she is here.”
McClellan’s first day will be Tuesday, July 28. She will be involved in orientation, then will begin seeing patients Monday, Aug. 3.
“I want to see a seamless integration into the organization,” Ayoub said. “I want to set her up for success.”
Growing up in Sawyerville, Mich., a small town between Lansing and Detroit, McClellan and her family moved to Beulah after she graduated from high school in 1996.
She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Denver majoring in biology.
After taking a couple of years off, she decided to attend St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. to become an M.D.
After graduating from med school in 2006, McClellan began her residency in Ft. Collins where she said they specialized in training rural doctors.
The move to Holyoke was one McClellan said will enable her to use all of her skills. “We really like the community,” McClellan said. “After meeting the staff (at MMH) I decided it was a good fit.”
McClellan and her husband Steve have three children: Marlo, 10 months, Wesley, 3 and Savannah, 4.
McClellan said Steve is a stay-at- home dad for the time being but is a certified physical therapist. She also mentioned he has planted his garden equipped with a drip irrigation system.
Her hobbies include reading, spending time outdoors, biking, gardening and cooking.
