Francisco and Gabriela Caraveo started a new business venture last week when they opened Holyoke Video Center at 126 S. Interocean Ave.

The Brett Murray family recently donated a fish tank to Family Practice of Holyoke, in memory of their infant son, Baby Ethan.


Ten Years Ago

April 29, 2004

Despite the recent resignation of police officer Shanole Allison, effective May 14, members of the Holyoke City Council voted last week to keep the police force at four full-time officers.

Three local women, sisters Olivia Almanza and Carolina Hermosillo and their mother Victoria Baeza, were killed in a motor vehicle accident near Fleming on April 22.


Twenty-Five Years Ago
May 4, 1989

Richard Potter of Haxtun was sworn in as Phillips County Sheriff on April 30. He was appointed to the position by the county commissioners following the resignation of former sheriff Dick Whittaker.

Kathryn “Katie” Kinney is the new district wildlife manager who has been assigned to the newly created Holyoke district by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

The first of May marked the official start of a new Holyoke business called High Plains Photography, owned by local residents Mark and Julie Lambert.


Forty Years Ago
May 2, 1974

District Re-1J voters, by a 691-344 vote, approved the $2,350,000 bond issue for the construction of a new Holyoke senior high school, which will be added to the present gymnasium, music room, ag classroom and shop.

David Sprague has announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives from District 65.

Gambles celebrates 40 years of serving Holyoke. Ralph and Hazel Anderson opened the store in May 1934.


Fifty Years Ago

April 30, 1964

Strong winds Friday and Sunday set the stage for a “big blow” on Monday, which damaged roofs, broke some windows, bent TV antennas and kicked up clouds of dust in parts of eastern Colorado.

J.M. “Mel” Tumbleson began his duties as mechanic for Butane-Propane Service Inc. on Monday, April 20, after operating his own auto repair shop for two years.

Starting next Thursday, May 7, Holyoke public library will be open one evening a week on a trial basis for the convenience of patrons. On Thursdays only, until further notice, the library will be open from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
