Stormy summer halts PCAC's 2009 Parade of Home Gardens PDF Print E-mail

Dear editor:

One of the goals of the Phillips County Arts Council is to share the art that is all around us. It is everywhere; not just on canvases or in galleries, but in nature as well. This belief is what drove the Arts Council Board to initiate a county-wide event that acknowledges the art found in people’s yards and gardens.

Any gardener will agree that gardening takes patience, passion and dedication, just as any other art form does. For the last two years, residents from Haxtun to Amherst have shared their artful nature in the Parade of Home Gardens. From artfully arranged gardens to uniquely landscaped lawns, gardeners shared their work with other residents, and even some coming from neighboring Colorado and Nebraska towns.

These same residents, however, have certainly noticed the stormy weather this summer has brought. This year it was a struggle to find enough gardens that had survived the hail to join the parade.

While it is unfortunate we will not be sponsoring a tour this summer, we appreciate those who have participated in the past, and who intended to share their gardens in this year’s parade. Having had such good reception in the past, we intend to continue to recognize local artists in the Parade of Home Gardens. Plan for a parade early next summer.
