Holyoke swimmers returned from the Goodland, Kan., swim meet Saturday, June 14 with one new record for the Holyoke Swim Club.
The 11-12 girls’ medley relay team secured a first-place finish and a new record with a time of 2:33.39.
Emily Jelden, Rylee Schneller, Lali Marquez and Demiah Hernandez all did their part to beat the previous record time of 2:37.34, which was set by the Holyoke Swim Club in 2006.
Overall competition landed Holyoke in second place behind Goodland. The final combined scores were Goodland 350, Holyoke 248, Burlington 180, Colby, Kan., 174.5, Wray 151, Oberlin, Kan., 83, Flagler 65 and Oakley, Kan., 18.5.
As the team reaches the halfway point in their season, coach Adria Colver notes the continued time drops as the athletes work on qualifying for up to five individual events at the league conference meet.
Coach Brenda Krueger placed many of the 8 and under swimmers in the 25 yd. butterfly event, which is a new stroke for many of them. They rose to the challenge with five swimmers earning medals.
