“America’s Best” at the Phillips County Fair
According to Wikipedia, a fair is a gathering of people to display or trade produce or other goods, to parade or display animals and often to enjoy associated carnival or fun fair entertainment, and if one looks back at our past county fairs, the tradition has not changed all that much.
Each of the county themes has always possessed a sense of pride, community and accomplishment. “The Making of America,” “Home on the Plains,” “Celebrating Family,” “No Place Like Home,” “Generations Building a Future,” “Keepin’ it Growing,” “Keepin’ it Country” and “Country Strong” were reminders to us all that the Phillips County Fair is arriving for all to gather to “promote modern farming,” as in the early 19th century when county fairs emerged in the northeastern United States.
Tradition has continued from the early 1900s when “domestic arts competition” arrived at the county fair, along with 4-H.
