4-H livestock project effort rewarded at Phillips Co. Fair PDF Print E-mail

Livestock projects featured in entries at the Phillips County Fair represent significant responsibility on the part of FFA and 4-H exhibitors.

All participants are winners. Those earning Grand Champion (GC) and Reserve Grand Champion (RGC) honors for their livestock projects at the 2009 fair follow:

Showman honors

In each livestock division, champion showman honors were awarded in junior, intermediate and senior divisions.

Round Robin showmanship recognition was achieved by Josh Larson in senior competition, Hannah Gillmore in intermediate and Taylor Hendrix in the junior division.

Champion showmen in individual categories follow:

Brandt Northrup, senior beef; Brandon Struckmeyer, intermediate beef; Austin Vieselmeyer, junior beef for the second straight year; Aimee Kanode, senior market goat (third straight year); Hannah Gillmore, intermediate market goat (second straight year); Katie Gibson, junior market goat (second straight year).

Kendra Timm, senior sheep; Hannah Gillmore, intermediate sheep; Josilyn Lutze, junior sheep; Josh Larson, senior market swine; Nicholas Ortner, intermediate market swine (second straight year); Austin Vieselmeyer, junior market swine.

Sarah Heermann, senior horse; Hannah Gillmore, intermediate horse (second straight year); Taylor Hendrix, junior horse; and Sarah Heermann, cat (fourth straight year).


Austin Vieselmeyer showed the GC market beef, and for the third straight year showed the GC breeding beef female. Tyler Camblin had the RGC market beef, while Blake Mari had the RGC breeding beef female.

Additionally, Mariah Struckmeyer earned GC beef rate of gain honors, and Brandon Struckmeyer was RGC.

Bucket calves were shown by Kaylee Camblin, Brooke Plumb and Morgan Uptain.

Market Goats

In market goat competition, Brandon Struckmeyer showed the GC (second straight year) and also earned overall rate of gain honors. Hannah Gillmore had the RGC and Patricia Adams, overall carcass quality.


Shelby Knode had the GC sheep, while Kaylee Ham showed the RGC and Tyler Tempel was recognized for sheep rate of gain.


In the 2009 swine show, Austin Vieselmeyer showed the GC market swine (second straight year), while Brian Strong had the RGC. Taylor Hendrix won overall carcass quality.


GC all-around honors in this year’s horse show went to Sarah Heermann in the senior division (third straight year); to Hannah Gillmore in intermediate; and Taylor Hendrix, junior.

In addition, Heermann had the GC mare overall for the fourth straight year. She won the senior western horsemanship, reining and trail; had the high-point senior gymkhana horse; won high-point performance senior horse and rider; and won high-point English.

Gillmore showed the RGC gelding overall.

Hendrix won junior western horsemanship, reining and trail; had high-point junior gymkhana horse; and was high-point junior performance horse and rider winner.

KrisAnna Ham showed the GC gelding overall, and Janna Smith had the RGC mare overall.

Kody Timm won intermediate western horsemanship, reining and trail; and was high-point intermediate performance horse and rider.

Jessica Martinez had high-point intermediate gymkhana horse.


Jessica Martinez swept the rabbit division, taking GC and RGC rabbit, as well as GC and RGC meat production.


Hunter Razo won GC poultry honors, while Drew Stewart took RGC.


In the 2009 cat show, Brian Strong had the GC cat for the second straight year and Sarah Heermann, the RGC. Sarah Razo showed the cat with the most unique color/markings.
