Boys' golf season underway PDF Print E-mail

Holyoke High School golfers took the course Monday, Aug. 10 as they started practice for their 2009 season. Coached by Garrett Gordon, the team is led by returning letterwinners seniors Geoffrey Mattson and Duncan Brandt and sophomore Coleton Spitz.

Other veterans returning to the team include junior Brian DeBoer and sophomores Chris Bieber, Brent Vasa of Haxtun High School and Caleb Kafka. Freshmen joining the team are Oto Martinez, Deyten Klein, Kyle Pierce of Haxtun and Keaton Arkulari of Wray.

Completing the coaching staff is assistant coach Kurtis Huss, a student teacher at Holyoke this year. Huss was a member of the inaugural HHS golf team. Also assisting is Pat Vasa.

Golfers open the season in Brush Thursday, Aug. 13. Turning around for a second tournament this week, they will travel to Burlington to compete Friday. The team will remain busy throguh August with competition at Ballyneal, Aug. 18; Yuma, Aug. 24; and Jefferson Academy, Aug. 27.

Continuing into September, tournaments are scheduled for Ft. Morgan, Sept.8; Brush, Sept. 11; and Sterling, Sept. 14. The 3A State Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 5-6 at Cougar Canyon Golf Course.
