Kenneth Uber - January 18, 2009


Kenneth Lee Uber, age 80, of Haxtun, died Jan. 18, 2009 in Haxtun. He was born May 12, 1928 near Lone Star to Cecil A. Uber and Ina Iva (Clow) Uber.
Kenneth and his brother Virgil worked together as crane operators while serving in the Army in the Korean War. Kenneth earned several medals during this time.
Several years later, on Aug. 14, 1959, he married Evelyn Fiene during a long lunch break. At this time he also took on the responsibility of raising her son, Harold Ray and daughter Betty Ann.
He provided for his family by working various jobs as a cook, building golf courses, and working in a lumber yard. He found great pleasure working with horses and teaching his nieces and nephews to ride.
Kenneth was a member of Prairie Home Baptist Church of Haxtun. His greatest wish before he died was to see the steeple raised at the newly constructed church. Sadly, he was unable to attain this wish.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, step-daughter Betty Ann of Holyoke, sister Charletta Huston of Glendale, Ariz. and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, step-son Harold Ray, three brothers and two sisters.
There will be no visitation for Kenneth. However, his register book will be available to sign Friday, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun.
Memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at Prairie Home Baptist Church in Haxtun, with Pastor Frank Tamasy officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Haxtun Cemetery.
