Harlan Benker - December 22, 2009

Harlan Christian Benker, 88, formerly of Julesburg died Dec. 22, 2009 in Gering, Neb. Harlan was born March 11, 1921 to William J. and Minnie L. (Hartman) Benker. He finished eighth grade in Sedgwick and got his high school GED in 1972. Harlan worked for the Town of Julesburg at the power plant from 1955-1985. May 19, 1943 Harlan married Lucile Faye Harold in Julesburg. Harlan’s hobbies included small engine repair and playing cards.

Harlan was preceded in death by his mother and father William and Minnie, daughter-in-law Deb Benker and sister-in-law Ann Benker.

He is survived by wife Lucille, son Donald S. Benker of Kirkland, Ariz., daughter Carol J. Howsden and husband Dan of Millington, Tenn., brother Delbert Benker of Canon City, brother Melvin Benker and wife Peggy of Zapata, Texas, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home with Pastor Art Roth officiating. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery.
