Lucile Benker - February 15, 2010
Lucile F. Benker, 86, formerly of Julesburg, was born Sept. 13, 1923 to Lee and Esther (Wegman) Harold in Sterling. She died Feb. 15, 2010 in Gering, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home in Julesburg with Pastor Art Roth officiating. Viewing will be before the service, starting at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Hillside Cemetery.
Lucile graduated from Julesburg High School in 1943. She married Harlan Christian Benker May 19, 1943 in Julesburg. Sept. 21, 1955 they moved to an acreage outside of Julesburg, where they remained until Dec. 10, 2008.
Lucile worked in the Ovid School lunchroom, J.M. McDonald’s, Julesburg Safeway Store and finally in 1966 for Mckinstry Abstract Co. until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, baking and reading.
Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Esther; husband, Harlan; brothers, Robert, Everett and Lee Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Isenbart and Betty Braasch-Oltman; and daughter-in-law, Deb Benker.
Lucile is survived by her son, Donald of Kirkland, Ariz.; daughter, Carol J. Howsden and husband Dan of Millington, Tenn.; brothers, Wayne Harold of Olympia, Wash. and Malvin Harold and wife Becky of St. Edwards, Neb.; sister, La Von Arndt and husband Buzz of Kent, Wash.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
