Vay Thatcher - January 30, 2010
Vay Olen Thatcher, 78, was born Nov. 22, 1931 in Holyoke to Roy Franklin and Pearl Ophelia (Trumper) Thatcher. He died Jan. 30, 2010 at his daughter’s house in Golden. Vay was a longtime Kit Carson County resident and a farmer for many years.
On Dec. 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marietta Opal Seals in Holyoke. To this union, four children were born: Sherry, Terry, Shonny and Trudy.
Preceding Vay in death were his parents; wife, Marietta; daughter, Sherry; and brothers, Jay and Arlo.
He is survived by his children, Terry Thatcher and wife Jo of Goodland, Kan., Shonny Marz and husband Ed of Golden and Trudy Mullis and husband Carl of Burlington; son-in-law, Nelson Metzler of Burlington; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kyle Thatcher and wife Mona and their children Tori and Montana; Sabrina Caines and husband Peter and their children Catherine, Rebekah and Peter John; Heather Secrist and husband Kevin Whitaker and their children Kendall, Alex and Brayland; Sonya Secrist and her children Marissa Martinez and Cameron Secrist; Julie Secrist and her children Kirsten and Nevaeh; Clinton Mullis and his children Kenna and Logan; and Jesse Mullis and wife Stephanie; sisters, Maxine Smith of St. Francis, Kan. and Ilene Speicher of Holyoke; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
The funeral service for Vay was held Feb. 3 at Love Funeral Home in Burlington with a graveside service following at Holyoke Memorial Park.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be left at or sent to the First National Bank in Burlington.
