Lola Cunningham - April 10, 2010
Lola Mae (Alberts) Shull Cunningham, 68, was born Oct. 9, 1941 in Holyoke. She died peacefully in her country home on April 10, 2010 in Lohrvile, Iowa.
Lola was the second of six children born to Chester and Hazel (Vogel) Alberts. She attended Holyoke schools, graduating from Phillips County High School in 1959. Following graduation, she worked at The Holyoke Enterprise.
Lola married Bill Lichtenberg Feb. 14, 1960. To this union three children were born. Bill’s job took them to Kansas, Wyoming and Iowa, where Lola raised her family. Bill and Lola divorced. Through Lola’s love of horses she met and later married Bob Shull. As time passed, their lives changed and their marriage ended.
Lola worked at Bowie Manufacturing in Lake City, Iowa for 20 years. This is where she met her friend and the love of her life, Rick Cunningham. The two of them spent many hours making their country house a warm and inviting home.
Lola had a love for animals all of her life. She loved riding her horse and raising dogs and enjoyed raising and selling exotic pheasants, peacocks and chickens. Tending her flower gardens, reading and crocheting were other enjoyable hobbies of hers.
Lola was preceded in death by her father, Chester Alberts, and brother-in-law, Merle Bennett, Jr.

Lola loved living in Iowa and with her wonderful sense of humor, would often say, “You know what Iowa stands for, don’t you? Idiots Out Wandering Around.” She will be greatly missed!
