Dorothy Smith - April 23, 2010
She lived in the Holyoke area until she married Stanton Bernard Smith on Aug. 28, 1949. To this union, two children were born: Carl Vernon and Jane Lea.
Dorothy accompanied Stanton during his matriculation at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. from 1948-1952. They then moved to Imperial, Neb. where Stanton taught at Chase County High School from 1952-1965 and Dorothy served as a secretary.
Dorothy, Stanton and their family moved to Hildreth, Neb. where he served as superintendent of schools from 1965-1976. Dorothy returned to Holyoke in 1976. She ran a home daycare for a number of years and provided superb care to a large number of the area’s children. She remained a Holyoke resident until Oct. 2009 when she moved to Pomona, Kan. with her daughter, Jane.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Stanton; infant sister, Barbara Jean; and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Carl Smith and wife Sheryl of Omaha; daughter, Jane Perdue and husband Rick of Pomona, Kan.; grandchildren, Trevor Smith and wife Auli of Omaha, Rachel Coyle and husband Brian of Omaha and Justin Perdue of Pomona; great-grandchildren, Owen and Brooke Coyle of Omaha; step-grandchildren, Randy and wife Victoria, Rebacca, Tara and Tiffany Perdue of Lawrence; step-great-granddaughter, Maliyah Brown-Perdue of Lawrence.
Funeral service was held April 28 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Holyoke with Pastor Lou Encinias officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Cemetery.
Gerk Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
