John P. (Jack) Kiernan of Holyoke, died May 9, 2010, at the age of 72. A wake service was conducted May 13 at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa. Funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Cumming, Iowa on May 14, with interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Jack was born May 14, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Alice (Watts) Kiernan and was raised on the family farm near Bonneville, Iowa.
He was a graduate of Dowling High School, Class of 1955, and moved to Colorado in 1973 to pursue a career in real estate.
He had many interests, including sales, home remodeling, construction, landscaping and classic cars. He was always excited to see new buildings and homes or restoration of older ones.
Jack said he would never go back to a small town until he came to Holyoke, then chose to retire here.
He was very well known and liked by those in his community and made new friends with ease. Jack was a hard worker, meticulous, organized and was a true ‘news freak.’
He is survived by his wife JoAnne Kiernan of Holyoke; children, Brian, Anne, Mark, Tim and Lynn; step-children, Debra, Sonya, Shirley, Marcia, Billy and Janet; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Rev. James, Tom, Gary and Mary Beth. He will be missed by his dog, Charlie.
