Brent Garland - July 28, 2010
Brent Reed Garland, 61, of Loveland was born April 8, 1949 in Holyoke to George B. and Vera F. (Brethouwer) Garland. He died July 28, 2010 at his home in Loveland.
He was baptized at First Christian Church at a young age. After graduating from Holyoke High School in 1967, he attended Northeastern Junior College and University of Northern Colorado, earning a bachelor of arts degree in accounting in 1971. Brent spent most of his career working in the accounting field, serving as Chief Financial Officer until his retirement 14 years ago.
Watching his grandchildren’s sporting activities was one of his passions, but his true love was football. An avid Denver Broncos fan for most of his life, Brent attended as many games as he could, including the Broncos vs. Green Bay Packers 1998 Super Bowl XXXII game in San Diego, Calif.
He also enjoyed officiating high school football games. In addition, in his spare time Brent enjoyed motorcycles and racing fast cars.
Preceding him in death was his dad, George B. Garland, and his grandparents.
Survivors include his mother, Vera Beal of Holyoke; son, Phillip Reed Garland and wife Kelley of Kersey; daughter, Stephanie Ann Thomas and husband Jason of Greeley; granddaughters, Kaycee and Karlee Garland; grandsons, Grant and Mitchell Thomas; and brother, Gordon Garland and wife Luisa of Denver.
Brent’s favorite charity was Salvation Army, and all memorials will be directed to this organization in his memory.
Brent’s funeral service was held Aug. 2 at Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke with Pastor Lou Encinias officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Cemetery.
