Joann Hofmeister - February 06, 2009
?Margaret Joann Hofmeister, 80, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Regent Care Center in Kingwood, Texas.
?Joann was born Aug. 20, 1928, the daughter of C.R. (Dick) Smythe and Alice Hazel (Mathews) Smythe in Loveland. The family moved to Holyoke in 1939, and Joann graduated from Holyoke High School in 1946. After attending two years of college, Joann married James L. Hofmeister on Aug. 23, 1949.
?Jim, Joann and family lived in Big Springs, Neb., Crawford, Neb. and Torrington, Wyo. They moved to Holyoke and purchased the Holyoke and Haxtun lumber yards from the Foster Lumber Company. Jim and Joann operated them until they retired in 1995.
?Joann enjoyed the Agenda Club, gardening and visiting with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play in their golf tournaments, soccer and volleyball games.
?Survivors include her daughter Debbie and husband Ron Collier of Kingwood, Texas; sons Brent and wife Bertina of Windsor and Craig and wife Amy of Katy, Texas; grandchildren Brandon Collier of The Woodlands, Texas, Tracy Collier of Houston, Texas, Brittany Hofmeister of San Francisco, Calif., Derek Hofmeister of Greeley and Kylie Hofmeister of Katy, Texas; and step-grandchildren Kristi and husband Matt Powell of Greeley, Amanda Ryden of Windsor and Zackery Ryden of Greeley.
?Joann is also survived by one sister, Judy Schliep of Holyoke, along with other nephews, relatives and friends.
?She was preceeded in death by her husband James L. Hofmeister; parents C.R. and Alice Smythe; sister Janet Hubp; and daughter Kim Marie Hofmeister.
?Funeral service was Feb. 12 at Holyoke United Methodist Church with Pastor Lowell Karnes and Pastor Jim Blake officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
?Memorial contributions may be made to the Holyoke United Methodist Church, 230 E. Furry, Holyoke, CO 80734. Gerk Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
