Etta Marie Dix - August 05, 2010

Etta Marie Dix, 85, was born in Phillips County on June 28, 1925, the first of seven children born to David and Helen (Nauman) Evans. She died peacefully on Aug. 5, 2010 at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab Center in Fort Collins.

Etta Marie grew up with her family six miles east of Haxtun on the family farm. Life was not easy during her youth, but she did her part helping her parents on the farm and being the big sister to her younger brothers and sisters.

Etta Marie attended Plainview Country School and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1943. Following high school, she worked in Greeley and at the First National Bank in Fleming.

It was at the bank she met Vernon Dix, whom she married Aug. 25, 1946. Together they made their home in Haxtun and raised their children, Dorothy, Richard and Marilyn. The marriage ended in divorce in 1975.

Etta Marie enjoyed working at Smythe’s Department Store for her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Gerald Brewer, for several years, and then moved to Fort Collins in 1978. This move allowed her to be closer to her daughters and families.

She was employed by First Interstate Bank of Fort Collins until her retirement and she valued her work and friendships through this relationship very much. She enjoyed a comfortable retirement for several years until dementia made it necessary to relocate to elder care facilities in Fort Collins.

She found joy in being a homemaker along with her involvement and membership in home extension club, PEO, United Methodist Church and many other community activities. She loved flowers and a beautiful yard, and often shared stories of the Depression and Dust Bowl years when such beauty wasn’t possible.

She also was very talented when it came to any type of craft, especially ceramics. Her fingers and hands seemed to know exactly what to do. Etta Marie was generous with her time and talents over the years and many friends, organizations and family members were the beneficiaries.

Preceding her in death were her ex-husband; parents; brother, Harold Evans; and granddaughter, Taylor Pullin.

Etta Marie is survived by her children, Dorothy Schild and husband Richard of Torrington, Wyo., Richard Dix and wife Linda of Medina, Wash. and Marilyn Pullin and husband Jim of Fort Collins; grandchildren, JoLynn (Schild) White and husband John of the Denver area, LeAnn (Schild) Ostheimer and husband Dan of the Denver area, Schuyler and wife Jordan Dix of Medina and Savannah Pullin of Fort Collins; great-grandchildren, Madison White and new baby boy Ostheimer; brothers, Robert Evans and wife Betty of Crook and Darrell Evans and wife Teri of Palisade, Neb.; and sisters, Mary Louise Evans of Haxtun, Marjorie (Evans) Brewer and husband Gerald of Holyoke and Lorraine Evans of Sterling.

The memorial service for Etta Marie will be held at Haxtun United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to Haxtun United Methodist Church in care of Dorothy Schild, 242 Willow Court, Torrington, WY 82240. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlender funeralchapel.com.
