Harvey McCune - September 15, 2010
Harvey Wayne McCune, 88, of Amherst was born to Arthur and Jennie (Hulls) McCune on Nov. 22, 1921 in Glenvil, Neb. He died Sept. 15, 2010 in Loveland.
He grew up in Glenvil and graduated from Glenvil High School. He married Doris Faye Goldenstein on Aug. 15, 1943 and they started their married life in Clay Center, Neb. Around the mid 1940s, they moved to the Amherst community where he lived until his death. He had been a farmer his whole life.
Harvey was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. He served on the Board of Education for Amherst Public Schools, was a board member for Amherst Co-op Oil Station, a 4-H leader and a Sunday School teacher and superintendent.
Fishing and hunting were both enjoyable to him as were sports, especially Big Red Nebraska football. He also loved to sing and sang for many weddings and funerals, as well as church and community choirs.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Robert Allen McCune; infant sister, Doris McCune; brothers, Clyde and Glen McCune; and sisters, Betty Ricker and Dorothy Fluckey.
Surviving him are his wife, Doris; son, Byron McCune and wife Roma of Fremont, Neb.; grandchildren, Jeff and Sara McCune; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Calyn McCune; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Harvey will be greatly missed by all.
The funeral service for Harvey was held Sept. 18 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. Interment followed at Holyoke Cemetery.
