Doug Keasling - October 18, 2010
Doug Keasling, 72, was born Dec. 1, 1937 in Sutton, Neb. to Clinton and Evelyn (Hiatt) Keasling. He died Oct. 18, 2010.
Doug graduated from Phillips County High School in 1956 and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Colorado State College (University of Northern Colorado).
While teaching for the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa, he met and married Beth Stroffoleno. Doug and Beth have two daughters, Leisl Schick and Jan Burden.
After leaving teaching, Doug began a career as a public administrator. He was director of Phillips County Department of Social Services for four years.
In 1972, the family moved to Fort Collins, where Doug served as Deputy Director of Larimer County Department of Social Services. In 1980, he was named director and served in that capacity until 1997.
After leaving that position, he served as interim director for both Phillips and Yuma counties. He also traveled to several states to conduct Child Welfare Reviews for the federal government.
While his daughters were in the Fort Collins schools, he was an active member of the Parent Advisory Boards for all grade levels.
Doug made a commitment to Jesus Christ at a young age. That commitment was the basis for his lifelong ministry of studying and teaching God’s Word. His passion for the Word was also his delight.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Clinton. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn; brother, Dennis and wife Kathy; wife, Beth; and daughters, Leisl and Jan and husband Jason. His grandchildren Jake, Matt, Madeline, Olivia and Sophia brought him great joy. He also leaves behind two nephews and their families.
A private burial will be held in Holyoke. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at SummitView Community Church, 1601 W. Drake, Fort Collins, CO.
