Laurine Ackerman - October 22, 2010


Laurine Freidarecka Ackerman, 92, of Hillsboro, Ore. was born Aug. 8, 1918 in Blue Hill, Neb. to Simon and Ida (VanBoening) Krueger. She was one of 11 children, with six brothers and four sisters. Laurine died Oct. 22, 2010 at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.

She lived in Blue Hill until she turned 12 years of age, at which time she and her family moved to Amherst. While in Blue Hill and Amherst she attended parochial school. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Amherst on March 20, 1932. She graduated from high school in Amherst.

On Dec. 25, 1937 she married LeRoy Ackerman in Albuquerque, N.M. She and her husband made their home in Holyoke and moved to Fort Collins in 1954. Her last major move came in 1969 when she moved to Hillsboro. They celebrated over 48 years of marriage together before LeRoy preceded her in death in 1985.

While residing in Hillsboro, she and her husband operated The Ackerman Christmas Tree Farm near Orenco, Ore. for many years. She continued to operate the Christmas Tree Farm after her husband’s death until she retired at the age of 82.

She greatly enjoyed operating the tree farm and visiting the many customers who had become her friends over the many years of operating the business. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to the Cheer Circle and Prayer Links of the Lutheran Woman’s League.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Chester, Andrew and Russell Krueger; and sisters, Leona Brinkema, Ida Nierman and Lucia Vieselmeyer.

She is survived by her daughter Lavon Helmricks and husband Dale of Hillsboro; sons, Larry Ackerman and wife Judy of Portland, Ore. and Leland Ackerman and wife Diane of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Doyle Helmricks, Kristin Eckhardt, Cyndi Ackerman-Shotts, Steven Ackerman, Christopher Ackerman and Amanda Ackerman; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Oltjenbruns and husband Elton of Holyoke; brothers, William Krueger and wife Glenda of Valentine, Neb., Jay Dean Krueger and wife Joyce of Holyoke, Daniel Krueger and wife Carol of Larkspur; sister-in-law, Donna Krueger of Ogallala, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Laurine’s Life was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, with Pastor Bruce Rumsch officiating. Private inurnment will follow at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Ore.
