John Orcutt - November 20, 2010
John Orcutt, 90, was born June 16, 1920 in Corsica, Pa. to John and Mary Orcutt. He died Nov. 20, 2010 in Delta.
He spent his childhood and attended school in Pennsylvania, where he entered Pennsylvania State University and entered the Army Air Corps as an officer candidate at the beginning of WWII.
He married Irene Falk in 1942 in Colorado while an officer in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in England near Cambridge during WWII, where he was an intelligence officer.
Following the war, he became a farmer and rancher near Holyoke. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.
He was elected as a representative to the Colorado State Legislature in 1962 and subsequently to the State Senate. He was then appointed as the State Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of Colorado, and President Richard Nixon then appointed John as the Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
When he moved back to Colorado, he was involved in business in Denver and later developed a construction company.
His wife, Irene, died in 1965 and he later married Uvonne Blalock in 1974.
He is survived by his sons, John of San Diego, Calif. and James of Seattle, Wash.; wife Uvonne of Delta; sisters, Marian and Doris; and brothers, Barry and Paul.
A memorial service is planned in Corsica in the spring.
