Evelyn Mort - March 07, 2011
Evelyn Estella Mort, 96, was born Dec. 9, 1914. Born in Julesburg, Evelyn was the daughter of Uriah From and Mabel Bonawitz and the younger sister of Gertrude Olson. She died March 7, 2011 in Longmont.
She graduated from Venango High School in 1932 and went on to receive her teaching certification from Nebraska State Teachers College. Evelyn loved being a teacher and often reminisced about teaching in a one-room schoolhouse.
On Aug. 12, 1936, she married Frank Paulsen Mort, with whom she celebrated 73 years of marriage. Evelyn and Frank started their family in 1942 and welcomed their first daughter, Janet Diane, on Jan. 20. In 1945, they welcomed their second daughter, Frances Jean, on Oct. 18. Over the years, Evelyn and Frank lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado, eventually settling in Sterling in 1963, where they lived for 46 years.
While in Sterling, Frank and Evelyn owned and operated Western Agri Realty and spent time managing agricultural properties throughout Colorado and Nebraska.
In addition to working alongside Frank, Evelyn enjoyed traveling, collecting seashells, gardening and bird-watching. She was also a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and oldest daughter, Janet.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jean; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 14 in Venango, Neb. at the Community Church.
