Ed Lutze - March 11, 2011
Edward William Lutze, son of Fred and Viola (Tomlin) Lutze, was born March 13, 1918 on the Lutze homestead in Pleasant Valley, east of Holyoke. Ed died at Regent Park Nursing Home in Holyoke on March 11, 2011. He was nearly 93 years old.
Ed’s mother died when he was 1 year old. Her sister, Anna Tomlin, married Fred and became Ed’s loving mother. Eight children were born to Fred and Anna: Paul, Leslie, Lois, Geraldine (Houser), Mary (McLeod), Carol (Houser), Florine (Abbott) and Fred Jr.
Ed attended school in Pleasant Valley for three years and completed elementary school in Holyoke; he graduated from Phillips County High School in Holyoke.
Ed married Millie Goddard from Imperial, Neb. on July 30, 1941; they had no children. Ed served in the Army in the Pacific during WWII.
After the war, Ed earned a vocational teaching certificate in California and was employed by the California Department of Corrections where he taught meat cutting to the inmates. He and Millie lived in Newport Beach, Calif.
Upon retirement, Ed and Millie traveled extensively in their motor home, enjoying the beauty of the United States. They moved to Holyoke in 2004 to be with friends and family for their remaining years.
Preceding Ed in death were his siblings, Paul, Lois, Geraldine and Mary.
Ed is survived by his wife, Millie, who resides at Regent Park; and his siblings, Leslie, Carol, Florine and Fred Jr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children, who will miss his smile and joyful presence at family gatherings.
