Doris Groshans - March 05, 2009
Doris Delvinia (Likens) Groshans died March 5, 2009 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. She was 80 years old.
Doris was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Wray to Floyd Likens and Alta Opal (Groseclose) Likens. Her father died in 1934 and her mother married Merle D. Bennett, Sr. in Holyoke in 1937. Alta died in 1942 and Merle raised his five children on the farm east of Holyoke.
Doris attended grade school at the Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Phillips County High School in 1948. She remained on the farm to help care for her younger siblings.
On April 18, 1964, Doris married Paul Groshans in Holyoke. One of their many adventures was moving to Missouri where they raised cattle, but eventually Colorado called them home. They moved to Longmont and also Loveland where they ran their own mobile home repair business. Their final move was to Holyoke where they retired.
Doris’ interests included gardening, sewing, antiques, craft fairs and traveling. She had a deep love for her family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Doris is survived by her step-children Paulette (Rod) Schliep, Russ (Lynne) Groshans and Pat Heermann; her sisters-in-law Peggy Bennett, Justine Likens and Lorna (Duane) Meinte; her grandchildren Troy, Todd, Tish, Jaime, Ty, Stephanie and Butch; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Floyd Likens, mother Alta Opal Bennett, step-father Merle Bennett, Sr., husband Paul Groshans, sisters Delfa McFadden and Barbara Fisbeck and brothers Dale Likens and Merle Bennett, Jr.
Funeral services for Doris were held Friday, March 13 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke with Rev. Dave Loeschke officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park. Baucke Funeral Home of Holyoke directed the arrangements.
