Lois Biddle - June 18, 2011
Lois Stella (Sorensen) Biddle was born in Ayr, Neb. on June 20, 1914 to Louis P. and Stella G. Sorensen. She died June 18, 2011 at her home in Peoria, Ariz., two days short of her 97th birthday.
She spent her childhood and young adulthood in Holyoke. It was there Lois met her future husband, Larwill A. Biddle, in high school. During her high school career, Lois performed in many musicals and was noted for her beautiful soprano voice.
She and Larwill were married Oct. 5, 1935 and moved to Amherst, where they lived and farmed for two years. They then moved back to Holyoke where they started their lifelong work of building a nationally-known herd of Brown Swiss dairy cattle.
During this time, they had three children: Charlotte Lee, Sharon Lou and Larwill Kenneth. The night before Charlotte was born, Lois was out dancing—in high heels!
In 1948, she, her family and the whole herd of cattle moved to Broomfield. In addition to taking care of her family, she was a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and square dancing. After four years, the whole production moved to Boulder where they continued dairying until they moved, without the cows, to Mead.
Fifteen years later, Lois and Larwill moved to Litchfield Park, Ariz., taking the cows with them. They established a dairy on Northern Avenue in Glendale, Ariz., where they sold fresh milk to many customers until they sold the dairy to their son.
Peoria, Ariz. then became their home for 24 years. It was here that she and Larwill celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2010. Everywhere she went, she was known for her infectious laugh and her spitfire personality.
Lois was preceded in death by her only sibling, Shirley Jean Peterson; and her oldest daughter, Charlotte.
She is survived by her husband, Larwill of Peoria; daughter, Sharon Gray and husband Ray of Fort Collins; son, Larwill K. “Willie” and wife Carol of Peoria; grandchildren, Ron Horn and wife Debbie, Kenneth Burke, Douglas Horn and wife Rebecca, Andrew Burke, Scott Biddle and wife Adriene, Denise Frakes and husband Dallas, Michael Biddle and wife Wende and Jason Biddle and wife Shannon; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
