Marion Scott - August 04, 2011

Marion Lorraine (Hood) Scott was born Nov. 16, 1919 in Creston, Iowa to Harry Strohm Hood and Ruth Blanche (Dill) Hood. She died Aug. 4, 2011 in Holyoke.

Marion lived and attended school in many places, one of which was a two-year course in rural education at CSCE (Colorado State College of Education), now known as University of Northern Colorado. She taught two years in eastern Colorado schools and three years in Palisade and a school office in Westminster.

Marion married Elbert Leroy Scott Sept. 2, 1950. Two daughters were born into this union. First arrived Mary Ruth, named after both of her grandmothers, and then Joanne (Jody) Elizabeth.

The couple started their home in Parker, where they resided until moving to Phoenix, Ariz. for a short time, then back to Littleton, and eventually to Aurora. While in Aurora, the couple owned a furniture store (AA Arrow), selling used and new furniture.

Elbert and Marion retired in 1972 and bought a small acreage in Cañon City. Newly retired, Marion enjoyed her newfound free time working in her vegetable garden and going to auctions. In 1989, Elbert and Marion moved to Holyoke to be closer to their younger daughter Jody and her children. There, they enjoyed going to Meet and Eat at SunSet View and playing cards with friends.

Marion also had a love for cooking. She loved trying new recipes and using her bread machine. Marion loved to read and kept a daily journal of events in her life up until the time Elbert’s health declined and she could no longer take care of him. He then went to live at Prairie Vista Care Center in Holyoke where he died in 1997.

Marion continued to live in their Holyoke home until 2007 when she moved into Carriage House. She spent her time reading and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were very special to her. She had an amazing memory and wit about her that she kept with her until she took her last breath.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Elbert; half sister, Lorraine; and half brother, Bub.

Surviving her are her daughters, Mary Ruth McGrail and husband Joe of Cañon City and Jody Fiscus and husband Gary of Holyoke; grandchildren, Katie Hughes of McMinn-ville, Ore., Shane Sanders and wife Tina of Cañon City, Joy Purkeypile of Fort Scott, Kan., Kurt Purkeypile and wife Holli of Holyoke, Doug Fiscus of Greeley, David Fiscus of North Platte, Neb. and Adam Fiscus and wife Carolina of Sterling; and 10 great-grandchildren.
