Mary Belle Williams - February 27, 2009
Mary Belle Williams, 90, died on Feb. 27, 2009 in Raton, N.M. She was born July 27, 1918 in Holyoke, the third of six children to Ralph and Hazel Anderson.
Mary Belle grew up in Holyoke, graduating from Phillips County High School in 1935. She then attended and completed the Bonnie Beauty School in Denver. Returning to Holyoke, she met Wayne Williams and they married on December 19, 1940. She operated a beauty shop in Holyoke while Wayne was in the Army.
With the exception of one and one-half years in Elizabeth and one year in Pueblo, they lived in Holyoke where they owned and operated the Holyoke Rexall Drug Store until 1966, when they sold the store and moved to Denver. She worked for Chevron Oil Co. until her retirement in 1980. They then moved to Raton, N.M. to assist their daughter Jane and husband Terry get established in their new business venture.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Christian Church in Holyoke. Her interests were crocheting, gardening, bingo and enjoying her many friends at the Raton Senior Center. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother (G.G.).
Mary Belle is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne in 1996, her brother Leland Anderson, sister Bona Beck, brothers-in-law Charles Black and George Beck.
She is survived by her sister Marjorie Black of Ames, Iowa; brothers Deane and wife Bijie Anderson and Dale Anderson of Holyoke; daughters Patricia and husband Don Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., Jane and husband Terry Taylor of Raton, N.M.; grandsons Christopher Olson of Huntsville, Ala., Gregory Olson of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Daniel Johnson of Denver; granddaughters Tamara Taylor of Denver, Nicola Taylor of Reno, Nev., Debra Beyer of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Deanna McLeod of Sedro Wooley, Wash.;
Great-grandchildren Jordyn Hertz, Jared Hertz, Jessica Fraser, Heather Fraser, Hailey Husmann, Jake Husmann, Jennifer Beyer, Matthew Beyer, Shannon McLeod, and Daniel R. Johnson; and two great-great granddaughters. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
