Bud Peterson - October 29, 2011

Leland “Bud” M. Peterson, 69, of Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Holyoke, was born Sept. 21, 1942 at Bowman, N.D., the son of Merril and Frieda (Kercher) Peterson. He died Oct. 29, 2011 at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Bud had recently moved to Grand Island to be closer to his son and especially his two little grandsons, Carter and Cooper. He grew up in Bridgeport, Neb., Sterling and Holyoke, graduating from Holyoke High School with the Class of 1960. He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 19, 1964 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 18, 1966.

Over the years, Bud was owner/operator of Danny Peterson’s Hauling and Trucking and was employed by several co-ops, including Lexington, Creighton, Amherst, Venango and Stratton. Lastly, he was the owner/operator of Speedy Cash ATMs.

Bud loved to fish. He was extremely proud to be the father of Danny and grandfather of Carter and Cooper.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Grand Island City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Leroy Peterson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Tessa Peterson of Grand Island; Danny’s mother, Anne Stem of Fort Worth, Texas; stepson, Glenn Atkins of Silverdale, Wash.; stepdaughter, Tina Montague of Fort Worth; brother, Don Peterson of Evans; sister and brother-in-law, Ardie and Fred Besse of Holyoke; his two beloved grandsons, Carter and Cooper Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be applied to a fund for Carter’s and Cooper’s future education.
