Ramona Proctor - March 27, 2009
Ramona Ann Proctor, 69, of Sterling, died Friday, March 27, 2009 in Sterling.
She was born October 20, 1939 in Denver. She was the daughter of Vernon and Nina (Scott) Koch of Haxtun. She was married to John Leiding and later, Tom Proctor, both deceased.
Ramona was director of Eastern Colorado Services for the Developmentally Disabled. She graduated from UNC in Greeley. She began her work in Sedgwick and then at the Wesley D. White Center in Julesburg. She also was the director of the Region One Office of Human Development in Sidney, Neb. and served 10 counties.
Ramona was very active in community events. She served on the Colorado Association of Community Boards and added several residential services. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Sterling, where she was very active and a member of the church choir.
Preceding her in death were her parents and only brother Dr. Glen Koch, brother-in-law Leonard Smith and four nephews Joel Schultz of Wisconsin, Neal, Timothy L. and Timothy W. Smith.
Ramona is survived by her two sons, Robert Dean Leiding of Iowa and Ronald Eugene Leiding of Thornton, and godson Justin Tolentino of Sterling; five grandchildren, Riston Leiding of Iowa, Anthony Kizer and Joshua Wood of Sterling and Courtney and Kiley of Galveston, Texas; three sisters, Alma Smith of Longmont, Doris Mae Smith of Santa Fe, N.M. and Linda Schultz of Merrill, Wis.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation for Ramona was Monday, March 30 at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 31 at First Lutheran Church in Sterling with Pastor Andrew Dimit officiating. Interment followed at Haxtun Cemetery.
