Myrtle Petersen - April 19, 2009


Myrtle Louise Petersen died Sunday, April 19, 2009, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 10, 1920 to Charles and Alice (Adams) Welton in Grant, Neb., one of 11 children. She was raised and went to school in the Pleasant Valley area.On May 4, 1940 she married the love of her life, Kermit Petersen in Imperial, Neb. To this union five children were born: Patricia, who died at birth, Ronald, Janice, Linda and Teresa.
Myrtle was a wonderful cook not only for her family, but she also cooked for the hospital, nursing home and several of the restaurants in town.
Myrtle’s great love was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also spent much time reading and studying her Bible, working crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit; infant daughter, Patricia; her parents, Charles and Alice Welton; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; six brothers, Floyd, Arnold, Charles, Donald, Leonard and Virgil; and two sisters, Helen and Ferne.
Myrtle will be greatly missed by her sisters Iris Fisbeck of Holyoke and Peggy Wheeler of Salem, Ore.; her children Ronald Petersen and wife Kathy of Yuma, Janice Hibbard and husband Mike of Holyoke, Linda Bahnsen and husband Steve of Haxtun and Teresa Waln and husband Dan of Holyoke; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Myrtle touched the lives of so many people during her life in ways the family is only beginning to hear about.
Visitation was held April 21, and her funeral service was at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke Wednesday, April 22, with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park. Baucke Funeral Home of Holyoke directed the service.
