Betty McAdam - April 30, 2012
Betty Jean McAdam, 84, of Ovid, died April 30, 2012 in Julesburg. Betty was born
Jan. 16, 1928 in Flemington, Mo. to Claude and Lula Mae (Brown) Lefler.
The family moved to Springfield, Neb. in 1935, Valparaiso, Neb. in 1940 and Waverly, Neb. in 1942, where she graduated from high school in 1945. Betty attended the University of Nebraska and received her two-year teaching certificate.
She taught two years in Venango, Neb., where she met her husband-to-be. She married Burdette McAdam on June 1, 1948 and worked various jobs in the following years—waitressing, census-taker and selling Avon—but her biggest job was raising six children. After retiring from the farm, they moved to Ovid, where she was very active with the Senior Citizens Center.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lula Mae Lefler; two brothers, Bert and Clarence; and two sisters, Ruby and Trena.
Betty is survived by her husband, Burdette; her six children, Gary McAdam of Sidney, Neb., Karen and husband Perry Carruthers of Holyoke, Roxanne and husband Harlan Hiatt of Lincoln, Neb., Sherylynn and husband Richard Brown of Amherst, Steven McAdam of Venango, Neb. and James and wife Jonna McAdam of Julesburg; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack and Violet Lefler of Ceresco, Neb., Clyde and Millie Lefler of Grass Valley, Calif. and Claude Lefler of Bartlesville, Okla.; sister-in-law, Lois Lefler of San Diego, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Graveside services were held May 4 at the Venango Cemetery with Pastor Mark Baker officiating.

Austin-Tennant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
