Pearl Davis - April 20, 2012

Pearl LaVone Riley Davis died April 20, 2012 at the age of 99 years, 8 months. She was born Aug. 18, 1912 to Byron and Belle (Murray) Riley in Savanna, Ill. They came to Colorado in 1915 and homesteaded southwest of Holyoke, where her two sisters, Ruth and Betty, were born.

Pearl attended a rural grade school and graduated from Phillips County High School in 1930. Pearl moved to Yuma to work, where she met Larry Davis of Yuma. They were married in 1939 and moved to Denver.

Pearl worked at Montgomery Ward as a switchboard operator. Later, Pearl worked at the Department of Employment from 1954-1974. Larry and Pearl both retired and moved to Holyoke in 1975, purchasing a house on South Bowman where they resided for about 30 years.

She was very active in the Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Society, Council of Catholic Women and the Legion Auxiliary.

Pearl’s hobbies were sewing and quilting and she was an avid Broncos fan. She had a great love for dogs, including her last dog, “Suzy.”

Larry died in 2004 and Pearl remained in their home until 2008, at which time she moved to Regent Park Nursing Home in Holyoke where she remained until her death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and their husbands and one infant daughter.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Herbert and wife Jean of Denver; nieces and nephews, Riley Dubbert and family of Holyoke, Mary Beth Kramer and family of Holyoke, Tim Sullivan and family of Rochester, Minn., John Sullivan and family of Chetumal, Mexico, Christine Sullivan Hughes and family of Tucson, Ariz., B.J. Sullivan and family of Denver and Ann Lynch and family of Denver; and cousins, Patricia Murray of Grand Junction and Terrence Murray of Thermopolis, Wyo.

The rosary was held April 25 at Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held April 26 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke, with Father William Jungmann officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
