Mabel Denbo - August 20, 2012
Allie Mabel Denbo died and shed the earthly bonds that hold us all and, having earned her wings, flew into heaven in the early morning hours of Aug. 20, 2012 from the Haxtun Hospital.
Mabel was born to Enoch and Mary (Hackett) Jackson on March 5, 1930 in Eckley. Mabel was the sixth of eight children.
Grandpa Jackson had what Mabel called “an itchy foot” and the family moved around a lot, all over Colorado and other western states. She was once in nine different schools in one school year. Although she didn’t care much for that, it gave her a great love for travel and adventure.
She loved birds and would travel anywhere to see them. She could tell birds by their species, male or female, and if they were adult or juvenile, through shaky field glasses at a thousand yards. She also loved to fish, though the whole idea of catch and release was a lost concept to her. And flowers— she loved flowers of all kinds, wild or in a vase, either way.
She met and married Orval Denbo on June 6, 1948 and they farmed while raising four children on Orval’s parents’ place southeast of Holyoke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Enoch (Jack) and John; sisters, Ellen, May and Mary Ellen; and daughter, Sharon.
She is survived by her brother, Merle Jackson and wife Betty; sister, Betty Turley; son-in-law, Ray Race and friend Audrey Rutan; son, Gary Denbo and wife Lynn; son, Dan Denbo and wife Linda; daughter, Diana Craven and husband Cody; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27 at the Berean Bible Church in Haxtun at 10:30 a.m.
