Wayne Deaver - October 27, 2012

Loyd Wayne Deaver was born April 13, 1993 in Denver. He was the oldest of two children born to Loyd A. and Melinda Benker Deaver. He died Oct. 27, 2012.

Wayne’s father died in a vehicle accident when Wayne was an infant, and he lived with his mother in Julesburg and Sterling until he moved to Steve and Nora Deaver’s home in Holyoke. In 2001 he moved to Grant, Neb. to live with his grandparents, James and Virginia Deaver.

Wayne finished his schooling in Grant, graduating from Perkins County Schools in Grant in 2011. In high school he enjoyed spending time with the Tatums at the barber shop. He had attended the College of Hair Design in Lincoln, Neb. and had passed his state board exams last week to become a licensed barber.

He was helping his Grandmother Benker move this past Saturday, Oct. 27. He pulled out on the highway in Iliff and was hit by an oncoming truck. He was airlifted to Denver where he died. He was 19 years old.

In high school Wayne was active in music, plays, golf and played basketball his senior year. He also was a member of FFA all four years of high school. He was active in the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy for several years, attending CCD classes and was part of the CYO. He enjoyed spending time with his sister Teresa and his Deaver cousins in Grant.

In addition to his father, Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa, who died in September of this year, and his grandfather, Gary Benker.

Wayne is survived by his grandparents, James and Virginia Deaver of Grant and Donna Benker of Cañon City; his mother, Melinda Dee of Iliff; and many other relatives and friends.

Rosary was recited on Oct. 30 at the Grant Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial-was held Oct. 31 at Mother of Sorrows Church with Rev. Mark Pfeiffer officiating. Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant was in charge of arrangements.
