Martin Roth - October 21, 2012

Martin Herrick Roth, 61, of Holyoke, died Oct. 21, 2012 in Holyoke. Martin was born April 8, 1951 to Herrick and Marjorie (Land) Roth in Denver. He lived in Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota.

Martin earned his bachelor’s degree at Colorado State University and his teaching certificate at the University of Colorado. Throughout the years, Martin worked at Great Western Sugar as an agronomist, Forest Service, Division of Wildlife, construction and as a junior high science teacher, junior high football and track coach and high school basketball coach.

On Dec. 23, 1989, he was united in marriage to Laura D. Stewart at Wellshire Presbyterian Church in Denver. Martin and Laura raised three children together: Ian, Conor and Nora Ann.

Martin loved teaching and coaching and had an incredible sense of humor.

Martin’s hobbies included watching and playing sports, especially basketball, football and golf. He loved Fantasy Football, and he and his brother Al had been with the same group for over 20 years. He also loved his family, music, movies and spending time at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Roth; children, Ian and Lyndsay McManus of Olympia, Wash., Conor and Courtney McManus of San Diego, Calif. and Nora Ann Roth of Denver; brothers, Wayne and Kathleen Roth of Seattle, Wash. and Alan and Lulu Roth of Denver; nephews, Dan and Shelly Roth, Brian and Corinne Roth and Ben Roth; nieces, Kelly and John Chandler and Travis Roth; cousins, Donna McNulty, Judy Lerner, Garnet Land and Sandy Land; and many second-cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life service was held Oct. 26 at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Pastor Gordon Penfold officiating.

Final resting place is in the arms of his loving family.
