Leila Baumert - December 17, 2012
Lelia E. (Betty) Baumert was born Jan. 29, 1922 to Clarence and Mary (Fansher) Cordrey on a farm southeast of Holyoke. She died Dec. 17, 2012 in Broomfield.
On Sept. 11, 1943, Lelia married Leonard Baumert at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Howells, Neb. They lived and farmed in Stanton County, Neb. after Leonard returned from service in the Army Air Corps during WWII, until moving to Holyoke in 1948.
Lelia was an active member in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW and the National Federation of the Blind. Her greatest joys in life were her family and sharing time with her two sons, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She loved following all their events and sporting activities. She also never missed listening to the Colorado Rockies on her radio.
Lelia enjoyed all of her friends in Boulder at Golden West independent living. She especially enjoyed playing bingo and her monthly trips to the casinos. Although being blind since the age of 27, she continued to amaze and inspire all that knew her, up to and including her last days.
Lelia is survived by her sister, Thelma Boyd of Albion, Mich.; son and daughter-in-law, Arlen and Rhonda Baumert of Broomfield; grandchildren, Andrea Baumert of Frederick, Jennifer and Justin Rogers of Thornton, Anthony and Shawna Baumert of Thornton and Aaron and Heidi Baumert of Thornton; and great-grandchildren who adored her, Jace, Jori, Josslyn, Kylie, Kaidyn, Kamryn, Aurion and Ayden.
Lelia was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Cordrey; beloved husband, Leonard Baumert; son, Leon Baumert; brothers, Donald Cordrey, Russell Cordrey and Willard Cordrey; and sisters, Irene (Cordrey) Sheffield and Pauline Cordrey.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke.
