Nellie Harding - February 26, 2013
Nellie Marie Harding was born in Waltman, Wyo. on Jan. 9, 1924 to William Roy and Rosie Feidila (Forbes) Hink. She was adopted by Victor Napoleon and Nellie Francis Hughes. She died Feb. 26, 2013 at the age of 89 at her home in Holyoke, surrounded by her family and friends.
Nellie rode on horseback to school in her younger years, then attended Wray High School in Wray. After high school, she went on to Central College in McPherson, Kan., where she received her teaching certificate.
On June 5, 1952, Nellie married Robert James Harding in Colorado Springs, and they were blessed with 61 years of marriage and four children: Linda, Glenda, Sandra and Robert Dale. She was a teacher and also worked at Speer Cushion and ComforThings, making book covers for Bibles.
Nellie loved sewing, cooking, working in the yard and was a beautiful housekeeper, always ready to entertain family and friends. Every meal she prepared was like eating a banquet feast. She was a member of the Nazarene Church for many years.
Nellie was preceded in death by her biological parents, William and Rosie Hink; adoptive parents, Victor and Nellie Hughes; brothers, Glennie Hink and Henry Hink; and sister, Trulie Hattaway.
Nellie is survived by her husband, Robert James Harding; children, Linda Daggett and husband Bob of Scottsbluff, Neb., Glenda Smith and husband LaVoine of Burlington, Sandra Bazan and husband Juan of Grand Island, Neb. and Robert Dale Harding and wife Naomi of Wray; sister, Rosa Miller and husband Bob of Lakewood; grandchildren, Kirk Tyndal, Dana Pickings and husband Kevin, all of of Kansas City, Mo., Anita Perez and husband Ignacio of Venango, Neb., Richard Bazan and wife Andrea of Laramie, Wyo., Gabriel Bazan and wife Emily, Juan Bazan Jr. and wife Bekah and Julie Russell and husband Chris, all of Grand Island, and Shamariah Harding and Nathanael Harding of Wray; great-grandchildren, Tiesha Pickings of Kansas City, Valerie Perez, Anselmo Perez and Sophia Perez of Venango, Owen Bazan of Laramie and Dylan Bazan of Grand Island.
The funeral service was held March 2 at the Assembly of God Church in Holyoke with Pastor Jon Shaw and Pastor Dee Walker (from the Buffalo Grass Nazarene Church) officiating. Interment followed at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Yuma.
Baucke Funeral Home of Holyoke directed the service.
