Lucille Miles - March 08, 2013
Lucille Irene Miles was born in Holyoke April 12, 1920, to Frank and Elizabeth (Miller) Linnenbrink. She died March 8, 2013, at the age of 92.
Lucille attended Pleasant Prairie Grade School and graduated from Phillips County High School in Holyoke in 1938. She attended cosmetology school in Denver and worked in the Denver area until moving back to Holyoke in 1946 where she resided until the time of her death.
She married Loyal B. “Bud” Miles on June 21, 1947. They lived on the family farm southeast of Holyoke once Bud’s parents moved to Holyoke. Lucille worked on the farm, grew a terrific garden, was a 4-H leader and worked at the nursing home in Holyoke in the 1970s.
She was an active member of Eureka Extension Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and helped with the Pleasant Valley softball field where Bud and her sons played many games of ball. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; son-in-law, Robert Major; and brothers, Frank and Harold.
She is survived by her children, Rochelle Major of Mankato, Minn., Ronald and wife Roxanne of Holyoke and Richard and wife Marva of Holyoke; grandchildren, Steven Keeling of Hampton, Va., Marc Major of Los Angeles, Calif., James Keeling of Cottage Grove, Minn., Bret Miles of Holyoke, Jennifer Hannan of Greeley and Nathan Eckert of Parker; sisters, Betty Hines of Englewood and Patricia Hart of Lincoln, Neb.; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held March 15 at First Christian Church in Holyoke with Pastor Merle Powell officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heginbotham Library in Holyoke.
