Jack Sherlock - June 27, 2013

John E. “Jack” Sherlock died and left his life on earth and was called to the Lord June 27, 2013, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Jack was born Nov. 5, 1928, to Elizabeth (Nepper) and Joseph Leonard Sherlock in Alliance, Neb., the fourth of eight children. He grew up in the rural community of Alliance. Farming and ranching was his occupation throughout his life until ill health forced him to retire.

Jack had to quit school and help his mother support the four younger children after his father died while Jack was still a teenager. He always had a strong faith in God and attended church regularly. Jack was a member of Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department. His greatest joy was his family and his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

On June 30, 1956, he married the former Pat Calhoun of Alliance and they were blessed with five children.

John was preceded in death by his youngest son, Bryan; his parents; his sisters, Maryann Lawson and Madeline Roes; and his brother, Joe Sherlock.

Jack is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Dennis and Deb Sherlock of Alliance, Deb and Dan Campbell of Hemingford, Neb., John and Becky Sherlock of Holyoke and Sue and Derek Doty of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Greiner and husband Pete of Trevor, Wis., Carolyn Brost and husband Ed of Sturgis, S.D., and Rosie Collins and husband Richard of Alliance; and brother, Martin Sherlock and wife Clarece of Alliance.

Funeral services were held July 1 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery. A rosary service was held June 30 at the church.

Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
