Berna Cano Jr. - July 02, 2013

Bernardino “Berna” Medel Cano Jr., age 33, formerly of Holyoke, died July 2, 2013, at his home in Mexico. Berna was born Sept. 1, 1979, in Greeley to Bernardino Sr. and Guadalupe (Aldama) Cano.

The family moved to Holyoke when Berna was 2. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He attended the Holyoke school system, graduating in 1997. In high school, he went to state all four years for wrestling.

Berna also attended the University of Northern Colorado. He worked as a self-contracted welder until moving to Mexico, where he had a small clothing store.

Berna’s greatest joy was his son, Maxim “Max” Medel Cano. He loved his nieces and nephews and was an amazing cook. It would be 10 degrees outside and he would be outside grilling without a coat.

He was called “Little Berna” by his family and “Oso” (bear) by his friends. He had a huge heart and was always giving and willing to help anyone in need. He was much-loved and will be greatly missed by his family.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Juagina and Antonio Aldama and Pedro Cano.

Surviving him are his son, Max; parents, Bernardino and Lupe Cano; brother, David Cano; sisters, Jennifer Cano, Patricia Cano and Michelle (Cano) Le Fever and husband Jairo; nephews, Michael and Nic Rascon, Diana and Natalia Garfio, Ashlynn, Xzandriah and Jaislyn Le Fever and Lillian Miller.

The rosary was held July 15 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held July 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father William Jungmann officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Berna Cano Jr. Memorial Fund in care of the Holyoke Credit Union, 101 W. Denver St., Holyoke, CO 80734.
