Wallace Pankratz - July 25, 2013
Wallace Ray Pankratz of Julesburg was born Nov. 7, 1947, to Ferdinand and Norma Opal (Woodward) Pankratz in Cordell, Okla. He died July 25, 2013, in Holyoke.
During his high school years, he was an avid athlete, lettering in three sports. After graduation from Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, Ohio, in 1965 he received a football scholarship to Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Wallace received his bachelor’s degree in education at Bowling Green. He was offered a graduate’s assistantship in football at Bowling Green. He received a very low number in the first draft lottery in 1969.
At that time he joined the Marine Air Reserves from 1970 until 1976. He taught science and coached football in Euless, Texas, and Nampa, Idaho. While teaching in Nampa, he received his master’s degree in science and education.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Opal Pankratz; and his brother, David Pankratz.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Barber of Julesburg; son, Scott Pankratz of Colorado Springs; sister, Barbara Fry of Fremont, Ohio; brother, Charles Pankratz of Dillon; sister-in-law, Danita Pankratz of Piedmont, Okla; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The memorial service was held Aug. 3 at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke with Pastor Terry Covert of Cope Community Church officiating. There will be a private family inurnment in Cordell, Okla.
