Robert Watson - October 11, 2013


Robert “Bob” Liston Watson was born Sept. 5, 1922, to Murry Watson and Edith Judkins in Arnold, Neb. He died and went to be with his Lord on Oct. 11, 2013, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke

In 1947, Robert married Norma Jean Merritt, with whom two sons, Rodney and Regan, were born. In 1975, he married Donna Dudt. He and Donna had resided in Holyoke since December 1996.

Robert enlisted in the Navy Air Corps in 1942 and served until 1945. He and his brother bought the grocery store in Arnold, and later Robert bought his brother’s half and it was Watsons Store until 1994.

He joined the First Baptist Church in Arnold in 1952 and, after moving to Holyoke, joined First Baptist Church of Holyoke. Robert served in many offices in the church and was active in American Legion and AARP and was always ready to help anyone in need.

Robert held many town offices in Arnold and worked with the Boy Scouts. He loved sports and enjoyed going to the high school sporting events.

He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean; parents; older brother, Stuart; older sister, Myra; and son, Rodney.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Regan and wife Becky of Arthur, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bouwens of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; stepsons, Philip and wife Noralyn of Rockville, Md., and David of Palm Springs, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Robert’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered on Judkins Hill, one and a half miles north of Arnold, named for his grandparents and overlooking the farm, ranch and dairy they had from 1930-40 where Robert grew up and four family members milked 37 cows by hand.
