Emil Herman - November 05, 2013
Emil W. Herman, 85, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Nov. 5, 2013, at home. He was born July 29, 1928, in Kimball, Neb., to Robert and Martha (Onigkeit) Herman.
Emil attended Golden Prairie School through the eighth grade and went to work at the family farm. In 1965, he married Mary Alice Barnes of Cheyenne, Wyo. To this marriage, three sons were born: Donald, David and Dennis.
As he grew older, he worked for several other local farmers, then purchased Jim’s Bar in Pine Bluffs, which he operated until his retirement while continuing to farm on the family farm. After his retirement, he went on to farm strictly at the family farm.
He was an active member of Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church and, in earlier years, the Elks Lodge. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Mary A. Herman; a brother, Robert; and sisters, Loretta and Frances.
Emil is survived by his sons, Donald Herman of Pine Bluffs, David Herman and wife Teresa of Pine Bluffs and Dennis Herman and wife Trudy of Holyoke; five grandchildren, Austin Herman, Josephine Herman, Lauren Herman, Courtney Herman and Joshua Herman; sisters, Margaret of Michigan, Dorothy of Georgia and Lois of Cheyenne.
A memory service was held Nov. 9 at Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church with Pastor Lesley Matschke officiating. An inurnment service followed at the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. Cremation was under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
