Barb Boone - January 04, 2014
Barbara Jean Boone, age 72, of Hollister, Mo., died Jan. 4, 2014. She was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Holyoke to Dewey and Laura Lindgren.
Barb grew up in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1958. Shortly after high school, on Feb. 28, 1959, she married Robert Lock in Holyoke. The marriage ended in divorce, and Barb remarried George J. Boone on Feb. 15, 1962, in Denver.
George was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his 32 years in the Navy, the couple lived in Boulder, Newport, R.I., Fort Meade, Md., Adak, Alaska, Monterey, Calif., Great Bridge, Va., and Washington, D.C. In 1981, they retired to Hollister, Mo., on Lake Taneycomo.
Barb was a skilled homemaker and was active in the Officers’ Wives’ Club at various stations. She was employed by Virginia National Bank for seven years.
After retirement in the Ozarks, Barb kept busy volunteering and being active with the Taneyhills Community Library. Barb enjoyed reading, traveling, boating and working crossword puzzles.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Boone; and brother, Gerry Lindgren.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Bratcher of Berthoud; son, Mark Boone of Laurel, Md.; two grandchildren, Brandon and Carissa Bratcher of Berthoud; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Lil Lindgren of Holyoke; sister, Lu Radtke of Holyoke; and sister-in-law, Fae Lindgren of Holyoke.
A memorial service in Holyoke will be planned at a later date. A private graveside service was held at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
