Don Jacoby - February 19, 2014


Donald Duane Jacoby Jr. was the son of Donald and Leah (Winter) Jacoby, born March 6, 1933. He died Feb. 19, 2014.

On March 27, 1952, he married Shirley Sterling in Milliken. Shirley died June 23, 1972.

Don farmed in the Johnstown area and grew sugar beets, where he received the distinction of “Top Ten” grower. In addition, he grew barley for Coors, beans and wheat. After the death of Shirley, he and his son Dale moved to Holyoke and continued his love for farming there.

In January 1980, he married Linda Bautista. They recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. He retired from farming in 1998. He and Linda continued to live in Holyoke.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda; three children and their families, Duane Jacoby and wife Lala of Loveland, Donna Hughes and husband Dale of Greeley, and Dale Jacoby and wife Karen of Holyoke; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by three sisters, Shirley Lacey of Dryden, N.Y., Elizabeth White of Arizona and Melody Glim and husband Bob of Greeley; and brother, Harvey Jacoby and wife Janet of Loveland.

Don enjoyed fishing, although he didn’t get to go as often as he wanted. He also enjoyed the morning gatherings for coffee.

The funeral service was held at Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke on Feb. 22 with Bryan Kroeger officiating. Services concluded at the chapel.

A graveside service and interment was scheduled to be held at the Johnstown Cemetery on Feb. 24.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Donald D. Jacoby Memorial fund in care of Gerk Funeral Home, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Gerk Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
