Marcia Sand - January 07, 2014

Marcia Kay Klute was born June 15, 1964, in Henderson, Neb., to Norma (Jacobson) and Arthur Klute. She was the youngest of five daughters. She was baptized the same month at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton, Neb. She died Jan. 7, 2014.

In 1967, when Marcia was 3 years old, her family moved to Holyoke. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke in 1978. Marcia was active in 4-H and won a Grand Champion award for knitting and crocheting. She participated in band, cheerleading, theater and FHA at Holyoke High School, where she graduated in 1982.

She attended Concordia College in Seward, Neb., for two years and transferred to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1986. After graduation, Marcia moved to Denver and worked for Northwest Transport.

On May 16, 1992, Marcia married John Sand at Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada. Marcia converted to Roman Catholicism and became a very devout follower of her faith. Trevor Arthur and Tyler Anthony were born in 1994. Gentry Elise followed in 1997.

Marcia was an incredibly family-oriented person. She hosted many Thanksgiving and Christmas family events. She was the family photographer, recording many family gatherings through pictures, which she later made into beautiful scrapbooks. Scrapbooking became one of her cherished hobbies.

She was a homemaker and full-time mom, involved in her children’s academics and also their sporting and cheerleading events. She was a welcome volunteer at Holy Trinity School and Holy Family High School.

A big part of Marcia’s family life was spending weekends at the lake with family and close friends. Strong family bonds were formed in the “close quarters” at the lake. Memories were made that will never be forgotten. It is here that those close to her will still hear Marcia’s laugh and her “Hey there” and feel her love.

Marcia will be remembered for her abiding faith, her love of her family and her home, and the three incredible children she had raised. She endured 15 months of continuous surgeries, chemo, radiation, piles of pills, and poking and prodding, while fighting cancer.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Arthur Klute; and mother-in-law, Shirley Sand.

She is survived by her husband, John, and children, Trevor, Tyler and Gentry, of Arvada. She is also survived by sisters, Sharon Lambdin and husband Tim of Aurora, Kathy Klute-Nelson and husband Chris of Costa Mesa, Calif., Barbara Holtzman and husband Tom of Holyoke, and Lois Purcell and husband Andy of Fort Collins; father-in-law, Darrell Sand Sr. of Arvada; sister-in-law, Kathy Quintana and husband Larry of Westminster; brothers-in-law, Kenny Sand and wife Diane of Tucson, Ariz., Dale Sand of Wheat Ridge, and Darrell Sand and wife Michaela of Arvada; an array of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and very dear friends; and her loyal dog, Stella, who was her steadfast companion throughout her illness.

Funeral Mass for Marcia was held Jan. 15 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westminster. Inurnment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family has suggested that contributions in Marcia’s memory be made to Lutheran Hospice.
