Velma Hagemann - December 18, 2008

Velma Louise (Kroeger) Hagemann of Broomfield, cherished mother, grandmother and friend, died Dec. 18, 2008. She was 86 years old.
Velma was born Oct. 29, 1922. She was one of 10 children born to William and Louise (Lenz) Kroeger of Holyoke. She was baptized in infancy and at the age of 14 was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.
She attended local schools in the Holyoke area and graduated from high school in 1939. She pursued her higher education at Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, which is now known as the University of Northern Colorado.
Velma received a War Emergency Certificate for teaching. The first school she taught at was her home school near Holyoke.
On Aug. 9, 1944, Velma and Corporal Glenn Hagemann were married at Zion Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with three children—two sons and one daughter. The family lived in Holyoke for eight years and moved to Idalia and then Joes, where Glenn worked for the State Department of Highways and Velma was a substitute teacher.
After Glenn’s retirement, they moved to Glenwood Springs. Velma worked in a nursing home for four years, and then in the hospital for 11 additional years.
At this point, they decided to move to Montana. They lived in Victor, Mont. for eight years, then in Hamilton, Mont. for 12. Velma was active in the Victor Garden Club, winning many trophies for her flower arrangements.
She also belonged to the Arts and Crafts Club, the senior citizens and worked in the church. She enjoyed raising flowers, oil painting, crocheting and making quilts. But most of all, she enjoyed her home and family.
Due to poor health, she and Glenn moved back to Colorado to be near their children. Shortly after they moved back, Glenn died. Velma then lived near her daughter Karen and husband Ray Sheehan.
Velma is survived by sons Bill and wife Glenna of Grand Lake and Steve and Elaine of Parachute; daughter Karen Sheehan and husband Ray of Broomfield; grandsons Michael Sheehan and wife Pamela of Shawnee, Kan. and David Sheehan and wife Carissa of Littleton; granddaughter Kathy Carr and husband David of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandsons Quinn and Nathan Sheehan and Jason, Patrick and Kevin Carr; two sisters Phyllis Therkelson of Aurora and Faye Anderson of Ormond Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law Hazel Kroeger of Lincoln, Neb. and Roberta Hagemann of Fort Collins; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
In honor of Velma’s wishes, cremation arrangements have been made. Memorial contributions can be made to LIFE Fellowship Family Bible Church, 11500 Sheridan Boulevard, Westminster, CO 80020.
